Details

Using the Explore Scientific Filter 1.25" Dark Yellow No.15, when observing the Moon's surface will boost contrast significantly. The same goes with the planet Mars. On the giant planet Jupiter, when using this filter, you can discern greater contrast between the cloud-bands and subsequently see lot more detail. When using a telescope with a greater aperture than 8“ and clear seeing conditions, Saturn's subtle cloud details are accentuated.

A minimum 5" (127mm) objective aperture is recommended when using this filter - which makes it usable on mid-sized telescopes.

What is a colour filter for and do we really need it?

Colour filters attenuate the light that reaches the eye or the sensor of the camera slightly. This eliminates for stronger transmissions, which leads to greater contrast, which automatically reveals greater detail.
