The Moon and Mercury

The Moon and Mercury

Astro Imaging can be achieved without a Telescope just using a camera and lens, this often produces breathtaking wide angle shots that can cover events such as Lunar eclipses and conjuctions.

This image was taken with a Canon 40D Digital SLR camera with a 300mm lens mounted on a standard photographic tripod. Taken on May 8th 2008 from Sussex this image shows the Planet Mercury in the same field as a waxing Moon. The Moon can often be imaged with Mercury or the much brighter Venus.

Noctilucent Clouds

Noctilucent Clouds

Another example of phenomena best suited to imaging without a Telescope are Noctilucent clouds. Noctilucent clouds are bright cloudlike atmospheric phenomena visible in a deep twilight. They are most commonly seen from our latitudes and are known to be the highest type of clouds stretching to altitudes of fifty miles or more above the Earth.

This image was taken in July 08 using a Canon 40D camera combined with an 80mm lens.
